Some of our wins and accomplishments in making Medford a better place for all!

Medford becomes first in MA to divest from fossil fuels, weapons manufacturers, and human rights violators
Medford became the first city in Massachusetts to pass a sweeping values-based divestment ordinance, thanks to leadership from City Council President and Our Revolution Medford member Zac Bears. The measure bars city funds from being invested in weapons manufacturers, fossil fuels, private prisons, and companies complicit in human rights violations. This victory marks a major milestone for Medford’s progressive movement and the grassroots power of ORM.

Historic Tax Override Win Paves the Way for a Stronger, Smarter, and More Connected Medford
Medford voters have made history by passing two major overrides—championed by Our Revolution Medford—that will bring millions in annual funding to strengthen schools, repair infrastructure, and expand arts and vocational programs. This victory marks the city’s first successful override since Proposition 2½ was enacted in 1980, reflecting a strong community commitment to investing in its future. The result is a win for students, educators, and every resident who values a thriving, well-resourced Medford.

ORM Celebrates Affordable Housing Trust Victory
In 2023, the Medford City Council passed an ordinance to establish an Affordable Housing Trust—an initiative long supported by Our Revolution Medford (ORM). This landmark step gives the city new tools to purchase properties, preserve land, and ensure homes remain permanently affordable for residents.
By joining over 100 other Massachusetts communities with similar trusts, Medford sends a clear message: housing equity is a top priority. For ORM, this victory reflects the power of sustained grassroots advocacy to address displacement, stabilize neighborhoods, and create a more inclusive and diverse city for all.

ORM Leads Bold 5-Year Plan to Expand Affordable Housing
Our Revolution Medford is proud to see the Affordable Housing Trust—established through ORM leadership along with strong support from community advocates i—move forward with a bold five-year plan. The trust aims to expand affordability through zoning updates, city-owned lot developments, and nonprofit partnerships, while ensuring housing remains accessible to low- and moderate-income residents. ORM continues to stand with Medford families, renters, and workers in the fight for housing justice and stability.

ORM Launches City-Wide Composting Program
In 2024, Our Revolution Medford members helped push the city to launch a free, city-wide composting program! The initiative makes it easier for residents to cut food waste, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and keep Medford’s neighborhoods cleaner and more sustainable.
This milestone shows what’s possible when the community organizes for climate action and wins policies that make sustainable living accessible to everyone.

New Rezoning for Growth and Business Development
In late 2024, thanks to the leadership of Our Revolution Medford members on the City Council, Medford adopted new zoning rules for the Mystic Avenue Corridor and the Salem Street Corridor — while also passing a groundbreaking Green Score zoning policy to reward environmentally friendly building practices.
These changes mean more housing options, stronger protections for our neighborhoods, better support for small businesses, and a clear commitment to climate-friendly growth.
